Trance International
TI: In our hot-seat this month, answering the questions that matter (and just possibly one or two that don’t!), Mr John Askew. How have you been John!?
JA: Good thanks.
TI: You’ve got a new compilation out this month; tell us a bit about that?
JA: It’s a two cd compilation full of trance and techno tunes that’s out with Digital Society/Enhanced Recordings right now and there’s a possibility it might be the last mix album I ever make.
TI: So what nuggets have you managed to land for its tracklist?
JA: I’ve used my favourite tracks from the time that the album was made. Loads of up front Discover shit from the top boys on the label and then a bunch of stuff from all of my other fav producers. There’s some of my latest remixes and tracks on there and I’ve spent a lot of time editing and reworking loads of the other material to really make the whole album as customised and original as possible.
TI: Have you popped any of your own bits on there?
JA: Yes, I’ve ‘popped’ the new single “Bad Apple” on there, with “Vandalism”, “Bored of You”, “Z List Uber Star” and “Fade to Black” and a bunch of remixes – I can send you a full tracklisting if you like?
TI: Digital Society, as a night, is a genuine 08/09 success story. What do you think makes it so special?
JA: The sordid little venue, the killer sound system, the exceptional line ups, the totally unique crowd that travel from far and wide to behave incredibly badly together and the down to earth promoters who know their music, know their hospitality and know how to programme and produce the perfect night.
TI: How are things going on the future productions front? What do you have coming up?
JA: At the moment I’m thinking about giving up djing, Discover Records, my radio show, dull unimaginative interviews like this and all the toss that goes with them and telling everyone including you to fuck right off.
TI: Are there any producers that you’ve not yet collaborated with, that you think you’d rather like to?
JA: Nope.
TI: Lastly, any plans for the up coming festive gig season you’d like to tell us about?
JA: No - none whatsoever.
